suzzie homemaker making biscuits

So for the first time i made my own biscuits from scratch. On Sunday i made a nice dinner with slow cook roast, carrots, potatos, gravy and my homemade biscuits. I decided in these tuff times i could learn how to make this, and it was sunday. i really wanted biscuits for dinner. For the first time, they turned out not to bad. Go Jenn!!! So I thought i would share the recipe.
Biscuits with Milk Gravy

Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 cups buttermilk
1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
Milk gravy, recipe follows
Directions
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in the shortening with a fork until it looks like cornmeal. Add the milk, a little at a time, stirring constantly until well mixed.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead lightly two or three times. Roll out the dough with a floured rolling pin to 12-inch thickness. Cut with a 2-inch cutter.
Place the biscuits in a greased iron skillet. Gently press down top of biscuits. Brush the biscuits with half the melted butter. Bake for 14 minutes or until golden brown. Brush the hot biscuits with the remaining butter. Split the biscuits in half and ladle milk gravy over the hot biscuits.
Milk Gravy:
1/4 cup bacon grease
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups milk warm
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoons pepper
2 tablespoons melted butter
Heat bacon grease in a cast iron skillet. Add the flour and whisk until smooth and bubbly about 1 minute. Add the warm milk slowly and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to a low simmer and stir, until thickened, about 5 minutes, adding milk as necessary to control the thickness. Season the gravy with salt and pepper. Serve hot over biscuits.
Enjoy!

Scottish/Irish Festival at the fairgrounds

My sister-in-law came this past weekend to visit. It was nice casue i hadn't seen her in a year. She came to visit us and so they could go to the Scottish/Irish festival highland games at the Boise Fair grounds on 9-27-08. On friday night we went and got dinner to go and ate with her and my father-in-law at his house. And than after we went to the haunted World on highway 20/26(its like a haunted house inside a cornmaze) Nothing like they have in Seattle, WA as Siobhan tells me. And that was tons of fun.(I forgot my camera that night.) The next day while i had to work they went to the festival at the fairgrounds. They got to listen to differnt bands playing the bagpipes and so on. So this is a picture from that day at the festival.

oh my i forget to blog

So i am not very good at this. I have totally forgotten that i had this blog site. You know life gets busy. I belong to so many differnt sites i get confused, sometimes. I will blog some stuff soon. Ok one thing I have been doing lately is selling stuff on ebay. I really don't have time for a yard sale so i sell my stuff on ebay and i bet i even make more from selling it there than i would a yard sale. I was a demonstrator for stampin up! until the last couple of months ago, i had decided to drop. So i have so much stuff, i am selling most of my stampin up! stuff on ebay now. I am cleaning out my house and i am going to sell other stuff too. One thing i learned on there is that i sell to people in other countries(and US 2 of course) cause i tend to get more($) for it then people in the US. SO if you want to look at my stuff you are welcome to.

Spaghetti gone messy on Jade

This is a video of my neice. On Sunday my mom was watching my sisterAndrea's kids( cause she had to go to Utah to go get her husband.) We were eating dinner at my moms house. And as you can tell we eat Spaghetti for dinner. This is a really cute video of my neice Jade, she is so cute. well im bias cause i'm her aunt. She is 14 months old. Oh and you will see that she has something special to drink in that sippy cup and thats not my fault it is my moms fault. I think being a grandma, they just love to spoil the kids. So it was just give the baby whatever she wants. I love it! And of course i had to talk baby talk to the baby!

our non- vacation weekend

So we had plans of this past weekend of going to Lagoon, but things came up and we weren't able to go. We were very sad cause we were looking forward to it. Well i still had the time off from work, four full days off! Oh course there is always plenty to do so don't worry i did keep busy.

So On Saturday night we decided to celebrate and go out to dinner. We've been trying to be so good, not going out to dinner and just cook meals at home. cause that just adds up. Its so easy to do so when its only 2 of us. So we went to The Cheesecake Factory( oh my gosh it is so to die for the food). They have the best food and of course cheesecake!

We got all dresses up, so not just like dinner after work. So enjoy a couple of pics of us. And Brett was cute i made him laugh!
